Project Blue Sky is a public engagement piece that combines the latest in social media tools with Olympic and Paralympic athletes to highlight how individuals can take action against climate change through their transportation choices. Through a social networking website, individuals and groups can connect with their favorite athletes, chat with friends, post photos and use the onsite widget to track their sustainable travel habits. The goal of the project is to log 1 billion kilometres on the site before the Vancouver 2010 Games. One billion kilometres is roughly equal to the 190,000 tonnes of indirect Co2 emissions that VANOC is aiming to reduce before the games. Project Blue Sky challenges the public to “race” VANOC to meet this goal
